Interextuality- the interrelationship between texts, especially works of literature; the way that similar or related texts influence, reflect, or differ from each other (Dictionary Definition)
Intertextuality as a theory states that no text can exist or be created without having some form of reference to another media text. Tis can manifest in many different forms. The music video Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions by Lonely Island (Figure 1) has a cameo (guest appearance) by Will Ferrell in the song. This is,of course, a reference to the actor Will Ferrell and his movies. Or in the music video My Name Is by Eminem, where in he mocks common societal pratice by imitating real life situations but also makes many references through both lyrics and viuals to different media texts also. For example, he references Kriss Kross, a 90s hip hop group in the lyric "knocked her clothes backwards like Kriss Kross" and visually, there is a shot framed in a way that shows Slim Shady (Eminem's persona) as part of The Shady Bunch (A parody of The Brady Bunch) (Figure 2)
